Touran electrical problem with wipers

Not your problem - it's under warranty. Chuck the car at them, collect courtesy car and let them sort it out.

Then you must be an owner of a modern Alfa, not a classic one. My last Alfas all had problems with the electrics, and most of them mechanical gremlins too. Alfa have changed their cars loads since then....

I have heard of this issue before, where the wipers seem to have a mind of their own! Unfortunately, I can't remember what the cure was (though I have a sneaking suspicion that it might be either the convenience module, or the wiper stalk).

Regarding the fuse - that will have blown, simply due to the wiper motor being "overloaded" by having to work constantly on a dry screen. So, your stealer seemed to display the common trait of "muppetery", by not actually checking the cause of the blown fuse!

Because it is a fairly common problem, your local stealer should not have any difficulties in rectifying the issue.

You might want to try one of the many VAG forums out there, such as the one below \/ \/ \/ ;-)

Um, not in my case. The fuse blowing was the *first* symptom, the rear wiper didn't start running automatically until *after* the fuse blew. It's the washer fuse that blows (I presume) as the front and rear wipers still have power.

Given that there's a 15 amp fuse where the manual says there ought to be a 5 amp one I rather suspect that they just tried the "fling in a bigger fuse and hope for the best" approach.

Well, the 'new' one is a 1999 model, the 'old' one is a 1990 model. Don't know if you'd call 1990 'old', though.

I've had more problems with the Passat - namely the incredibly easy to trigger airbag warning light. Just vacuuming the car is enough to set it off.

Then your dealer is incompetent. Doing that sort of thing can lead to car fires. I would suggest finding another dealer or at least making this one aware of your serious concerns

Well, as has been pointed out elsewhere, the handbook is often wrong/misleading and my car should have a sticker by the fusebox to show the correct fuses. As the sticker is missing and the handbook is a bit sketchy, I'm prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt.
