TWA Autoelectrics, Corporation Rd, Newport -AVOID !!!!

Quite simple really. Did they do the job that you asked them to do ie. check the ABS sensor? As the answer was YES, then you had good service.

Then is that a reason for slagging the garage off? If they don't want the work then that's their prerogative surely?

See above.

Then take the hint and go to another garage - if they'll accept it the work from you now. :-)

To be honest, the only thing that they could be faulted for was perhaps by not telling you that the may not want the job for any number of reasons.

Being pefectly honest! I would simply have asked them at the time if they were able to do the job and if not, then could they recommend someone who could - simple really!

So take the hint, take it to a different garage or brake specialists - there are many in Newport and Cwmbran both main dealers and good "backstreet" ones.

Confused here. If they agreed to handle the necessary repairs, then that's them saying they do want the work. If they're then failing to do it and failing to tell Paul why, then that us unreasonable. But you're saying it's reasonable - why?

If they don't want the work they should say so, not just faff around pretending they do until the customer gets bored.

Drag mate,

Thats my point - when they diagnosed the fault they were quite keen to do the work. Its just the bit afterwards that has wound me up - they keep promising to phone back to get it sorted and they never do.

If they'd said right away something like they were too busy, they dont do that sort of work, or whatever then thats ABSOLUTELY FINE. Like I said, they did a good job of diagnosing the fault first off - cant fault them for that.

Surely you can agree that what they're doing now is a bit off ???

Thank you Clive. My point exactly. Doing what dodgy garages do these days - piss people about and provide poor service.

I'm just pointing out my poor experience with them and my opinions. I havent lied or done anything like that just told it how it is.

Of course, if someone else has a decent opinion of them they are also free to post they're opinion.

In terms of what they do, they seem a decent enough place who know what they're doing. I'm just pointing out that I will avoid in the future and would advise anyone I know to do so because of the way they seem to deal with customers.

Incidentally, Drag, why was I also wrong to criticise the other place who screwed up my tracking?

Surely, I've got a right to expect it to be done efficiently and not screwed up. Remember when you let a garage loose on your car, you are to a certain extent, trusting them to be able to do the job properly and leave the car is a decent and safe state afterwards.

Clive,

Re: your comment "Confused here. If they agreed to handle the necessary repairs" - Well they agreed to handle the ABS fault finding and they did that to the OP's satisfaction and were paid for doing that work.

They DID NOT agree to, nor are they under an obligation to carry out any remedial work as a result of that diagnosis - that is subject to another 'contract' and refusal not to accept the work is entirely reasonable - they may not have the capacity nor the inclination to do it - or perhaps they just don't want to deal with the OP!

"If they don't want the work they should say so, not just faff around pretending they do until the customer gets bored."

That's what I said AND suggested in my response to the OP - take the hint and find another garage that wants the work.

You were not wrong to criticise, the method of criticism was wrong - and IIRC, you did not give them a chance to sort the problem out before you started yelling from the treetops about it.

I had problems many years ago with a well known tyre/exhaust/shock absorber replacement company in Clarence Place with wheel tracking on a Montego - it took 'em four attempts before they agreed that their computer tracking was crap and when they reverted to their 'old fashioned' manual tracking gear they did it 'spot on'.

I finally stopped using that particular branch when whilst I was having a tyre replaced on the dreaded Montego (an arm and a leg cost job then), the fitter sauntered over and said that my front shocker was leaking and I would need a new *pair*.

My rather measured response to this was "open the passenger side door and pull out the receipt for the two that were fitted here about a month ago - and once you have confirmed that, replace both units under warranty"

One red face and a "pretend" rollicking off the manager, the fitter told me he had made a mistake - ha!

You have every right in the world to expect that. But if something is not to your satifaction, then go back and TALK (not shout aggressively) to the right person and give him a chance to sort it out first - remember people are not infallible and errors will be made. If they then fail to correct it, then step-up the pressure - this has yet to fail for me.

By following that method, I manged to get my wall cavities filled and loft insulated for nothing because someone dropped a couple of genuine 'clods' and they didn't keep two appointments to rectify their errors - it really is amazing the results that you can get by keeping your 'cool' and sense of humour when these errors are made!

Paul says they did agree to do it : "at the time, they agreed to handle the necessary repairs". You say they didn't. Why do you say that?

Have you just misunderstood the situation? Do you know more than you're letting on?

I did give them every chance to sort the problem out. After the fault was diagnosed they agreed to do the work. I've given them about 10 chances to phone me back and book the car in but so far all I've got is promises and thats it.

I know whhich place you mean !

I was wondering that. You dont work for TWA, do you? ;-0

It gets worse....

Took the car to Hyundai dealer in Cwmbran. Turns out its not what TWA said it was. Looks like theres more to it than just a dodgy ABS sensor.

Nice one TWA. Charge me =A380 and dont even get it right...

You have not said what the original problem was nor why they have apparently got it wrong!

Perhaps the second garage is trying to make even more cash out of you than TWA?

NOW, if you have written proof of that, then go back and see the manager of the operation, explain the situation and either ask them for a refund or a discount - you won't get that by shouting in the different groups that you are cross-posting in.

The complaint could only apply if you asked them to check MORE than the ABS sensors for a fault.

If you only asked them to check the sensors and nothing else, and their diagosis was correct - then hard luck... *YOU* tied their hands!

That's why the request to TWA should have been:

I think there's a problem with the braking system, particularly the ABS. Could you please check it out, notify me of the problem(s) if any and give a

*QUOTATION* to carry out any repairs including the cost of parts and how long these repairs will take, *DO* you want the work and if you do, *WHEN* can do it - oh, and will you keep any old parts for my inspection and you could have even pushed your luck and asked them to supply a courtesy car.

BTW, I have no connection with TWA and had never even heard of them until you posting - just to clear things up there.

Have today spoken to Tim at TWA who was able to sort out the confusion with this. Pleased that he did this.

To be fair, he took the time to speak to me to see if there was still an issue. It looks like there was a misunderstanding about some of the paperwork and some confusion because someone was on holidays.

So, I think its only fair I should mention it in this thread.

Glad to hear it :-)

cheers, clive

Just out of interest, Drag.... did you alert them to this post like you promised ???

Did you get things sorted then and are they doing the job?

And no, I didn't notify them of this thread, their place is too far away from where I live for me to benefit from any freebies for doing so - but it's possible the owner, mangager or an employ actually subcribes to one or more of the groups that you have cross-posted to on their home or *works* computer just as you do!

No. I'd already got the work done somewhere else.

But, like I said, to be fair, they did make an effort to speak to me to sort things out...

In that case would it be fair to remove the word AVOID from the subject?
