tyre valve core

How do I remove the valve core from a tyre? I have got a removal tool, but i don t know how to use it. I have tried to turn the valve core but the tool (plastic) cracked under the pressure i was applying. If it does have to be turned, is it clockwise or anti-clockwise? Do I have to let the air out of the tyre first? As the tool is now cracked, could i use a long nosed pliers or something similar?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's a standard right hand thread, turn anti clockwise to unscrew. If you want some more life out of the valve don't use anything other than a proper Schraeder tool, made of cast metal. It also includes a threaded die for refacing the valve cap thread and a tap for similar on the valve core thread. DaveK.

Must be a cheap s*it tool then.

Lefty loosey, righty tighty.

Nope.

Yup.

Get a proper metal one.
