Urgent advice please

Cracking tyres = Massive decompression when they explode = Replace all four. Treat yourself to something nice. Four new Michelins perhaps? Oh, and placed like National Tyres & Autocare will even Insure your tyres for something like a fiver.

I'm not sure how the scale works but if they puncture within the first you you get a new tyre, afterwards you get a percentage of the price until 5 years when you get 10% off from the next tyre you buy. It works on miles I think.

Get some new tyres, they're one of the most important parts of a car.

Your dad's a fool. Yeah, I don't like spacesaver spares either (especially as mine is about a third of the width of my 225s on the rear) but nails are not good.

Last time I had to replace a tyre for a nail was on one of the rears - both weren't too worn. So, I put the semi-good ones from the front and put them on the rear. Then replaced both the worn ones that were on the rear to start with.

Get a set of 4 budget brand tyres.

Can't remember the size on a Sei, but ISTR they're only 135/70R13, so they'll be dirt cheap.

(I don't usually recommend budget brands, but you drive like a Nun, so you wouldn't take advantage of sticky rubber)

That'd be a cracking deal - do they cover them wearing out too? :-) My rears are lucky to last a year / 10,000 miles (and I don't drive silly, I had well over 33K miles from the front tyres of my FWD Celica years back).

Spare or spacesaver? Many spacesavers have a maximum speed of 50 mph and a maximum distance of 50. I don't think you will approach these limits.

All four are shot. The fronts because they're too old, the rears because they're worn out.

Replace all four.

Michelins lasted for an absolute age. My Cinq's fronts would have lasted for 60,000 miles...

Yeah, a couple of times, but not recently. I think it's because my rears (used to be on the front) are badly worn at the edges. Since moving them to the back I haven't had any problems with aqua planning, and I did push hard (too hard) in the wet a few days ago.

NSL's most of the way to work, but only 15 miles in total. I just reallised, I'll probably be getting tailgaters doing 50mph. Hopefully the idiots will see my red wheel, and reallise that I can't go faster.

My normal route is a very twisty NSL with a poor surface. The speed varies a lot, but ranges between 20mph, and 60mph on that road. This is a very dodgy road at the best of times though. I had to slam the brakes on today for a Golf (typical) comming around the corner crossing the centre of the road. Dunno, maybe I could just take this road slowly?

I think most tyres will on a Sei/Cinq. My car's done 41k, two are cracking due to age (but otherwise like new), and the other two are still legal. I suspect that the tracking was out at one point which caused the wear on the edges of the fronts. If I rotate the tyres I would expect them to do well over 50,000 miles (6 years at this rate). If the car hasn't rusted away by then I'd be quite pleased, my door's looking very suspect :-( ).

The Pirelli P700s were the best, and also, at one point, the only tyre in that fitment.

However, I changed profile and started buying Coopers. Not quite as grippy as the P700s, but they were half the price and made the handling less 'snappy' - especially once the car had been lowered.

You may be wrong there. Give 'em a bell 1st thing in the morning, I called late afternoon and they did it for me lunchtime the following day.

What's your daily mileage? Ten miles? If so, don't worry so much about running on the spacesaver.

Ring the tyre company, many offer same day. By their very virtue, tyres are immediate-replacement items.

You're being lazy. Lazy people pay more for stuff.

Phone Bracknell Tyre on 01344 411323 and get a quote. It's an easy 20 minutes from your work but involves using the M4 so you'd probably end up in Cardiff.

Get Humphreys or National (i've used both - prefer Humphreys) to price match.
