Vauxhall Omega dash board switch illumination

Boy, the little things in life really drive you mad, don't they??

The "ECO" switch in my Son's recently purchased Omega CDX has blown the bulb which illuminates when the ECO switch is operational. Having taken the switch out - and apart - I can see what looks like a

5p push-fit bulb which I cannot remove to replace!

I fear that a replacement switch from Vauxhall will be disproportionately expensive so I draw on all your collective knowledge to try to help us out!! :)

All thoughts are gratefully received and I thank you all in advance. . ..

Cheers Geoff

Have you actually tried ringing a Vauxhall parts dept to ask if they can sell you the bulb. If they will, the odds are that its replacable!

Failing that : Re-wire it in, measure what voltage is illuminating it, find a physical and electrical replacement, cut out the old bulbas close to the glass as possible then solder in the new one to the remaining leads making sure to carefully insulate all exposted metal from the leads.

The bulbs are not available separately - well not from Vauxhall. The switch is considered to be a sealed unit, and a new one is approx £12+VAT.

Try

and look for wire-ended bulbs of the same size and 12V rating as the one in the switch. Good luck if you manage to replace it - those switches have never worked again after I have taken them apart!! ;-)

It's often easier to fit an LED, as the leads are rather more ridged than wire ended ordinary lamps. If there's not room for the current limiting resistor, it could be fitted in the wiring or PCB.

If you look in RS you'll find you can buy LED's with integral current limiting resistors that are exactly the same physical package as normal LED's saving the space...
