VW Golf 94 Advice

Nov 27, 2003 2 Replies

Hello all,

I've just bought a 1800 1994 Golf GL and have a couple of questions/probs to deal with.

- After completely warming up the delivery of power is not smooth, there appear to be flatspots and the power seems to take a second to kick in after depressing the accellerator.

- Once very hot the tickover drops to 600 and the problems above are exagerrated. Pulling away becomes difficult because the engine hesitates briefly on accelleration.

The car has recently been serviced and has new plugs.

I hope this is not too cryptic! Maybe it will ring some bells with someone!

Thanks in Advance

Alex

Is this the 75bhp single point or 90bhp multi point engine?

If its the latter then firstly have the fuel injector removed and ultrasonically cleaned, clean the throttle body, then have the injection system checked with special attention payed to the idle stepper motor, vacuum leaks around the manifold, and air mass meter readings.

Tim..

Would this also be a good idea for a 2L 1992 passat GL with 131k on the clock? It's showing the same symptoms; ie, i need to bring the engine speed up to at least 1500 rpm to do any kind of graceful pull away from lights. The engine is the fuel injection one.
