Alloys

In the search for alloy wheels i have found there is various sizes not in diameter but another measurement for example the 6 x 14" £239.00 6.5 x 15" £265.00 7 x 17" £330.00

What does the 6 6.5 or 7 mean?

Many thanks

It will more than likely say on the wheel, if not the tyre size gives your enough idea.

It's the width of the alloy. As you've seen, bigger wheels are usually wider.

A 7" (or 7.5") wheel will take both 205 and 215 width tyres. If you get an

8" wheel, you really need 225 or 235 width tyres, so avoid these (unless it's for a big car).

You don't need to know. What size are your current tyres ?

Your kind of missing the point here.

When you phone the wheel supplier, and say "I want some 17" Oz Super Leggeras to fit a 2002 Clio", they just say "OK" and send you them. All the required fitments/tyresize etc. will be in their book - it's not upto you to supply the details !

Unless it is for something special likea pro-street, a 7 type car or a hotrod, or a custom beetle etc where the rim wodth will be non standard and be needed to fill the arches.

For example if you phoned up for a set of Oz Superlegera 17's for a Dooster Coupe, running Cycle wings with Ford RWD offset. they might not be quite what you are looking for if they send them to fit under Capri/Cortina/Sierra/Grandad wheel arches.

See my other post :

First thing you need to do, is keep the total radius of wheel+tyre the same. So the bigger the alloy, the thinner the tyre needs to be. Assuming you're gonna fit 17" rims, then

formatting link
will tell you that you'll need205/40/17 tyres, to keep almost the same diameter as your current 185/55/15.You're only increasing the width of the tyre by 20mm (from 185 to 205) andthe diamter is staying the same, so there won't be any clearance problems. You don't need to know the actual fitment of the wheel (PCD and Offset etc.) because the place you're buying the wheels from, will have all that in their book. You just say "Hi. I'd like a set of seventeen inch wheels, with tyres, for my 2002 Clio. What do you have that will fit ?"
