Another weird noise...

a golf GTi the same year as my MR2 turbo was £200 more to insure than the MR2? it's probably down to image the golf has and anyway a MKII turbo MR2 looks better than a MK3 golf :)

I'm 23, no NCD, no accidents, and one SP60. I reckon the Impreza would be more than a Ferrari, just because the sort of people who buy Imprezas are more likely to smack them up. I'm just guessing though, no site will give an online quote for any cars like Ferraris etc.

Maybe I should look around a bit more, I just used confused.com, if I was serious I'd probably try a few more places.

The insurance cost of a car (assuming the same driver) is only down to the average amount claimed by drivers of that car. I would very much suspect that many more "boy-racer" types have Golfs (esp the older ones) compared to MR2s. Not meaning to dis you, but I have 2 MR2s on my estate, one is driven by a middle aged-woman, and the other is driven by an old guy who managed to spin it in the snow going up a hill doing about 10mph right infront of me. Actually, that's not a good example is it ;-)

I had kind of set my insurance limit at £1000, maybe a little more, but seeing as my 206 is going to cost about £600 to insure after 1 years NCD, I don't think I could really get anything half-decent for under £1000. I'll wait until I have 2 years NCD (hopefully!) and 2 years more age, then see what the prices are like...

I use Confused.com as a guide line and knock off a couple of hundred. The people I'm with (Liverpool Victoria) are always at least 2 hundred less than any confused.com insurer. Don't know if the LV age cut off is

21 or 25 though.

I'm 35, and have 69.5% no claims, but I've only been driving on a full license for 3 years, and live in an area twinned with Beiruit, and I have a liking for either odd old bangers that need parts imorted from the former sov block, or 2 litre turbos of vareying ages and performance.

Or a Hyundai Coupe Evo :D

I'll get my coat...

Yes, but is it a coat Evo?

how have you got 70% with only 3 years? you get 30 in the first, 40 i nthe second, 50 in the third and 60 in the forth i've not had a fault claim in the past 8 years and, even with 2 policies running with seperate companies and seperate no claims i have still only ammased one of 70% and one of 50% :(

good, non chav/boy racer image is good enough reason to have on and shrug off the gay hairdresser thing too :)

suppose you have the right idea, as long as it has alloys and looks tidy should be good to boost the NCB up a bit as long as you avoid chav'ing it up :)

MR2s are dearer to buy an fix, thus balancing out the insurance thing, and you can't really fit a mountain bike in or on one very easily. A Golf on the other hand, will take a bike quite happily. I'd have one otherwise. And I got the Golf insured for the same price I was paying for the Mondeo...

well i have no need for a bike which is why i got myself a driving licence :)

i guess the golf is cheaper JUST as it has no turbo to blow things up with :)

I dunno - if I had a half decent bike (haven't actually got one at all, but steal my Dad's occasionally) I would use it from time to time. In a lot of urban situations it's quicker, if you're only after a couple of light bits and pieces. But more often than not, if I go to the Sainsburys Local for a few bits and pieces I still invariably come back with at least 3-4 bags of stuff!

Which is why i work for a bus company - free travel to the shops if i dont wanna drive, none of this physical excercise stuff :)

Bus? To the shops? Nah. I'd have to walk as far to a bus stop as I would to the shops. I can cycle to the shops in under a minute - probably closer to 30 seconds. No, probably nearer a minute. It takes at least that long in the car, and in the bike I can just chuck it right outside the shop - the car I've got to mess about parking in the crowded little excuse for a car park at the front of the shops. And that's before you mention the fuel issue.

true that! my 3 mates live together in chelmsford, all work in chelmsford but travel to work in different ways, 1 drives into work, 1 gets the bus and the other bikes it. the bus takes the longest! the car second and the bike first as it doesn't have to que with the traffic!

my mate wouldn't drive if i didn't have to but kinda needs the car being a sales rep :) the other gets the bus out of lazyness plus has the furthest to travel as he needs to catch a second once in town.

I have absolutley no idea. They won't list it as years, and they only raised it by 3% when I renewed with them this time. They are still £200 a year cheaper on most of the cars I've looked at, I reckon they bumped up the no claims as they insisted I have fully comp on the favorit because of the modifications, The saab was only £90 a year more than the favorit, and the Celica was only £40 a year dearer than the Saab, same insurance group, but more powerful, more complex, more desirable, and 10 years newer. The excesses are higher than the normal £200 theft or damage, and the fire excess is higher than I normally see on insurance quotes. But if I can help it, I don't have any plans to claim, so it isn't a problem.

My first 405 did exactly the same - nothing went wrong in the three years I owned it.

As you say, it's the the tyre gripping/slipping/gripping/gripping.

It grips, so the car accelerates, so the weight transfers rearwards, so the tyre slips, so the car stops accelerating, so the weight transfers forwards, so the tyre grips... And repeat.

That's what I thought, maybe it's just "worn in" now, Peugeot style :-)

In any case, I don't see it as an issue. If you're lighting up the front tyres on a regular basis, then something is wrong with your driving !
