Auction Prices

I'm sure some of you keep track of the threads on PH documenting these, but I'm absolutely astounded at the continuing demise of used car values.

Here are some from today at Colchester.....

2005 55 Volvo S60 T5 Sport. 61k. £3,650

2004 04 Lexus GS300 SE Auto with navigation & Mark Lev. 65k. £3,900

2001 51 Lexus IS200 SE Auto 153bhp. 60k. £3,350

2004 54 Lexus IS300 Auto. 62k. £4,950

2005 55 Volvo XC90 2.4D SE Geartronic.32k. £12,700

2005 55 Mazda RX-8 231bhp Coupe. 14k. £7,900

2005 55 Mazda RX-8 192bhp coupe. 59k. £5,450

2005 55 Land Rover Discovery TDV6. 56k. £9,950

2007 57 Volvo S60 SE. 9k. £7,450

2007 07 BMW 120D SE Step Auto 177bhp. 41k. £11,800

They're the ones which looked interesting.

Amazing value on the Volvos and Lexii, the 120D may be ugly as sin, but that's a good price for a 170bhp diesel auto.

I think the stand out car is the higher miles RX-8.

Even with buyer's premium, that's a cheap, fast, RWD sportscar.

isn't 60k the "ouch" service on them?

Engine replacement?

Yeah, needs a cambelt at that mileage.

Actually, it's the 192 and I'd think they're not that sought after as it's the 231 that got all the interesting toys.

A what?

A timing belt.

I think it's probably some kind of Kraut / English translation error.

But it wasn't.

I obviously know it doesn't have cams, but a google revealed loads of hits for 'timing belt', which I thought was odd.... but assumed it must need some kind of belt driven device in there. But it doesn't.

That depends on who you ask. Over on the UK MX5 forums, cambelt is understood perfectly well (it might however be an American expression).

Oh, and obviously the missing smiley has led to confusion.

Indeed. I reckon you'll be waiting a long time at the parts desk for an RX8 cambelt.

Bargain, the both of them, Volvo more so (apart from slightly stingy tax disc)
