Thanks to their superb built quality, it's variable. Sometimes my Dad's B5.5 TDI's trip computer is spot on, sometimes it's over 10% out.

Nope my Seat version is quite close over the course of a tank. (within about
3% normally so that's about 1L difference when I fill up).- Vote on answer

My trip computer (french) is always pessimistic by 3-4 mpg.
