Best idea for an insurance system

Apr 04, 2007 8 Replies

Got an online quote from Liverpool victoria, and for the 89 V8 rangie it=20 only offered 3.0litres.

They have one of those live help chat toys, so I messaged India for=20 help.

She said, persue the quote to the end, putting in any modifications you=20 have (suspension mod and LPG). Then she would check. So, got a quote of =A3250 fully comp, and she comes back "Yes, I was=20 right, it essentially covers any rangie rover petrol over 3.0, you are=20 covered for a Range rover V8, 3000cc-9000cc". And the policy doesn't specify engine size either just reg number. And they didn't want to see an LPG cert, or proof of security system. Privilege who I was insured with on the Octavia wanted to know what make=20 and model of alarm was fitted and required the cert for the alarm and=20 the LPG. And they were =A340 dearer than LV too.

Looks like LV might be covering some mods again.

I think you've ventured into 'modern classic' territory, hence the cheapness of the insurance and their liberal attitude to modifications.

They were pretty arsey with the Saab though, and it was older. "hmm, not sure if we can do mods now" (they used to be the best but the underwriter rules changed) but they allowed them as I was an existing customer not a new one.

They must have lost so many customers that they had to re-assess. The one thing they didn't like was engine swaps though, but I guess hybrids and mongrels are so common in the Landie/Rangie world that if they didn't allow them, they wouldn't have any customers.

You looking at a 9.0 litre conversion, then ;)

Blown LS1. YKIMS.

If you fancy keeping it in the family, how about one of the Rover V8s breathed on by TVR or RPI?

Well, it if ever gives up totally, I wonder if an Olds Big block could be persuaded to fit.

TVR 5 litre would nice, or something lazy like a big block olds or=20 Cadillac with a little tweakage and the emissions gunk junked.
