Better Car VTS or VTR

From Parkers Online.

In any case, the economy is a relatively minor component of the overall expense of running a car. The Saxo VTS has a 3-year depreciation index of

0.45. Assuming a typical 3-year ownership period, the cost of depreciation would be £6600, the cost of fuel approx £3600 and the cost of tax etc.. would be ~£500. Averaged annual cost = £3580

If the economy was the same as the Mini, that would change to approx £3400, i.e. by about 5%.

As a side note, this comparison is unfair. The VTR is a more suitable model for comparison with the Mini - it offers virtually identical performance and fuel economy, but costs nearly £2k less to buy and is significantly more practical.

Citroen still have it listed as part of there line up of new cars, though that could just be to get rid of the stock.

£6600 over 3 years? Sounds a bit optimistic as there are 2000 cars with well under 30k on the clock going for £4800 in autotrader. (1 owner, full service history with a warranty (ok the aftermarket warranty probably isn't worth the paper it's printed on) that car is hardly the exception. I make that £7200 over 3 years or an extra £200 a year. I guess that's what you get from Parkers. Thankfully there are people with money to burn on new cars so we can get them 2nd hand.

If you are thinking of buying new forget it and go for this:

Just under the list price for the VTR, ok it's going to be a bit thirsty by comparison but think of what you are saving on depreciation. VED won't be any worse than the VTS and think of all the extra space for ICE.

Stop this ! They are *identical* cars ! The only differences between the two, are the 2nd gear ratio, and some cosmetics. They're made in the same factory, with the same parts, by the same company.

106 = Saxo.

Obviously they're cosmetically different - one is a Saxo, and one is a 106 !

Ah, fair enough then :)

They can't be identical and have differences it's one or the other.

" identical adjective exactly the same

The 106 and saxo may be very similar but they are not identical.

As I said above they are "identical" apart from the outside, inside and the gearbox? Or are there more differences?

As has already been said, they are identical in every way apart from looks. The gearbox is identical too - it simply has a different ratio for 2nd.

I don't see where this is going ?

They are simply two different-looking versions of the same car. They have the same suspension, same gearbox (bar 2nd gear ratio), same engine, same steering, same wiper-motor, same exhaust, same clutch, same brakes, same glass in the windows etc. etc.

Saxo is made to look like a Citroen. 106 is made to look like a Peugeot.
