If you're really concerned about money, forget about leasing and buy something for a couple of hundred quid.

Sell your car. But for =A3250-300 while unemployed, I culd have a different car every=20 month. Pick something bigger, older higher mileage, or less popular. Something mid 1990's and maybe smaller Merc. 2 months lease cost would=20 buy you a reliable, legal and reasonable nick Merc 190 that would last a=20 year or more. Plus you get the sell what is left and offset it against=20 what it has cost you to buy and run when money is better.

Don't get into a lease situation when you are out of work.

Are you looking for work in a particular field, or just any job? If you're qualified in something and have been actively looking without any luck, just get something shit to at least bring some money in, even if it's box shifting at a warehouse for £6/hour. You can always leave with not much notice and move to the right thing when it comes along. And you get to keep the girlfriend.

Make sure it does not require English!

Common feeling. Give yourself a bit of a life style change. Nights in with a video and bottle of wine instead of going out for a film. Cooking romantic candlelight meal instead of going out, or getting takeaway. That kind of thing.

You can save money hand over fist if you adjust, and put it toward looking good for, and getting to interviews. Then when there is some spare, treat her to something.

Buy a second hand cheapy. £500 would get you something presentable to turn up to interviews in.

Yeah, it's IT related been studying pretty hard and passed a few exams but can't seem to break though, haven't even had any offers yet and over the past 2 weeks have applied for around 80 jobs.... wouldn't mind but I have past experience but it's all short term contract related so hard to get references from agencies.

Think your wright (sorry, I mean right!....) might have to get somthing shit to get me by and I get to keep the GF and probably the car too... will give it 1 more week then if nothing will have to accept anything but look every other day at least.

Last thing I want is to get depressed, solution = employmet

IT, IMO is a pain in the arse. I've got a mate who's going into it and will be making a fortune (and working far too much), but the vast majority of stuff is massively underpaid for the amount of knowledge you have to know. The other day I was looking at jobs, and the was a part time position as a secretary / receptionist at £6.50 an hour, and a SQL knowing IT assistant at £6...

But maybe the last thing you want is getting into IT, unless you are very very specialised.

I'm a web developer, and outside of London or the M40 corridor, don't bother.

Money is crap, the market is overloaded, and the work is ess than cutting edge day to day maintenance stuff, rather than "Exciting" new sites.

I'm looking to move out of it.

Or good. I'm not specialised. But I'm a senior IT guy in a non-IT company, so get to do a wide variety of stuff.

The thing I look for in developers is intelligence - and I've seen a hell of a lot of people lacking the required spark, some of them earning disturbingly large amounts given their complete incompetence.

What he said (among others).

I've now done 10,000 miles in my £500 banger. Spent about £200 quid in parts in the last week to give me a fresh MOT. Monthly payments - nil.

YKIMS etc....

I manage the IT support for a Pharmaceutical company. I've worked "with computers" for about 15 years now and the only time I got the shit pay and shit treatment was when I actually worked IT service companies (3, who are all big but I won't name!). Since I changed to doing IT work/support/development for non-IT companies never had it in nine years. I think that's the secret - work for a non-IT company!

They tend to make it into management, where they can use others to mask their total lack of anything useful except being able to schmooze the client. Then get us mugs to do the work.

You summed it up perfectly mate. I'm on about =A37, but if it wasn't for the share option deal over my=20 head, I would have jumped ship years ago.
