If I say got bored with the Saab, which would be the better bangernomics Alfa?

I think you meant the Dedra Integrale.

Its for sale but needs a piston ring!

The 155 Q4 had a 16v turbo Lampredi (dedra had 8v Turbo and later 16v NA) and different diff setup.

Both the 155 and the Dedra were reskinned Delta Integrales - in the same way that an Escort Cosworth is just a shortened Sierra Cosworth.

None of the above share anything other than shell and interior with the standard models (ISTR the Dedra Integrale and 155 Q4 have a different wheelbase to the standard models).

barge! i'd rather put up

Where I was working, either local to where I lived, or in london after I finished as a mature student, bus, bike, walk, train for one stop, or train into london was easier, cheaper and quicker.

Learnt to drive when I couldn't take train delays any longer, and that was on the Warrington to Manchester route, nothing like as busy, or congested as the Bedford to London line.

Here, a train normally manages 3 carriages, on the Bedford to London line they appologised if it was down to 4.

We had a train every 10 minutes, here they are every half an hour if they run on time. Finally got sick of delays and passed first time.

I always told myself I would pass when I could afford my dream car, but I couldn't stand it any longer.

BTW, I did have a Bedford HA van on L plates, and a Reliant Robin Van on L plates between the ages of 18 and 23, then never bothered after that for ages because of money and time shortages.

Tsk - hey Tim, that's your initials!

(Realised that ages ago and thought I'd pointlessly slot it in somewhere.)

Car's I've owned:

B529 YGH - 1.1 Escort Estate C507 BDE - 1.1 Escort Hatchback WBW 660X - 1.1 Escort Hatchback, with some silly lary yellow and bright blue colour scheme and daft looking spoiler and other bits VLL 591X - 1.3 Escort Hatchback C137 HGT - 1.3 Escort Hatchback D*** *** - Rotten old XR3i bought for the interior, and flogged a few bits off it.

G987 EVV - 1.3 Astra Van

F260 EOD - 2.0GLi Carlton Estate D996 CWP - 2.3D Carlton Estate L*** CHB - 2.0 Carlton Club Estate (absolutely mint, totalled it within 4 days of owning it, still got stiches in head to prove it) A18 EAS - 2.0 Carlton CDX Estate K788 RCU - 2.3TD Carlton Estate L*** *** - 2.0 Carlton Diamond Estate - bought for the interior, which I kept in the shed for ages and sold on ebay for a lot more than I'd expected :-) (and sold various other bits off it as well) G*** *** - 2.0GLi Carlton Estate - bought for the diff to put in the TD (trust me on this one!) - towed it back from Worthing to Bracknell with no brakes using a £20 Halfords solid tow bar, including wrecking one tow bar (my fault) and managing to blag a brand new one from Halfords in Crawley :-) But that's another story......

W651 RGE - Ford Fiesta TDi Van N301 RJU - Audi A6 Avant 2.5TDi 140hbp SE (now A6 LUP) H618 CRV - Citroen BX 1.6 TGS Athena S599 KBY - Daewoo Leganza 2.0SX M394 LOJ - Fiesta Van 1.8D F*** *** - Austin Maestro Van 2.0Di Y*** *** - Seat Inca Van 1.9SDi

Aye - cant remember all the cars I've driven- memorable ones include a Ferrari 348 (daren't thrash it but it was ace just for the noise - don't let anyone tell you they were crap - drive one and find out...), Mitsubishi 3000 GT (owned by the same guy as the fezza), Vauxhall VX220 (with my build I looked like a tit getting in and out, and it was half it's normal speed as the salesman was my build too...), BMW 530D (drive as fast as you like for

30mpg! - probably the best family car in the world), MGF Trophy (|had it for a weekend - spun it once, scared all my friends, most will no-longer get in a car with me), Volvo S60 T5 (also for weekend, encouraged me to buy the 2.0T), Omega 2.6 (broke two omegas in six weeks),Smart (!!) and a Boxster S (ruined by being yellow). Driven lots of mundane rental stuff though - so have thrashed the nuts off 1.0 corsas, 1.6 bravos, 1.8 focusses, diesel vans etc.

Not been on a test-drive spree for a while - mainly because I don't want to buy a car just now... Had a look at a Freelander but having seen the crashpics (a23 thread in uk.transport) I think maybe not....

That sounds like the sort of thing I would be looking at. honest=20 condition rather than mint.

Show cars are nice but you daren't drive them incase they get=20 dirty/scratched/dinked.

The 185 brake in the Saab is nice, because of the lag, it's nothing,=20 then boom. Fine for getting upto speed on a empty motorway, not so much=20 fun on my daily commute.

Would rather have something that was flatter in it's delivery, even if=20 it is a little less.

maybe even supercharge it later if it was a solid car.

but it will have to wait for now.

Hmm, there is a Sud Ti cloverleaf on the loot somewhere in the north=20 west. It's a "New today" so you need to pay to view it but the=20 description you can read is.

"Alfa Romeo Sud Ti Cloverleaf, =20 Y reg/83, fully restored 5 years ago, very rare model, needs minor=20 attention... "

Sounds interesting.

You have noticable lag ?

There's almost none in the TI - it takes a fraction of a second to come onto full boost (assuming you're above 2100rpm obviously :)
