ah, that's the wonders of the famous Scouse "F*ck that, mate, it's Italian, it's bound to be rotted to f*ck with knackered electrics" syndrome. Something I don't suffer from.. besides 164's DON'T rust.. and all the electrics work fine..

except for the oil pressure gauge sender, which is notoriously fickle on T-spark 164s.. First thing I did after buying it was shot down to the garage, dug out the oil pressure test gauge for the 'bikes.. it's got 4.5 bar at 3000 rpm, and 2 at tickover. Me happy :-D

I *never* look at exhaust prices, by best mate makes stainless pipes.. and to me, they're virtually free.

That's a little lower than my TS motor. But this could be down to the gauge.

The 75 is going to need new middle and tail sections soon.

However, I plan to replace the middle with a straight-through pipe :-)

Going off on a tangent here.... any idea how much it would cost to have a tow-ball fitted to it? - I'm thinking about how I'll move cars when we move house, and reckoned that a tow-ball and A-Frame (one of them things that lifts the front end of the car being towed so you don't need a driver in it, IYSWIM) would be a good way to move the Golf.

Not as far as I know. With it being a rigid connection between cars, there should be no reason for it to be braked.

er, dunno, but IIRC Witter (towbar peeps) are only in Deeside, so I'll pop in next time I'm that way.

I know in the 164 handbook it gives you all the dimensions etc for making / mounting one.

In fact, I'm not sure if the 3.0 75 we scrapped the other month had a towbar so I'll have a look at the bits that are left in the garage.. (there's a gorgeous Alfa - Momo steering wheel there, but we can't get it off the column)

ah, that probably IS the rule, but IIRC the actual rule is more to do with the weight on the towball. and with an A-frame that's not much at all. To be honest I'd not tow the Golf with a 75... not with the cost of 75 clutches.

besides, isn't the Golf an auto? or am I confuddled?

If you're towing it like that will the car not need to be braked if towing with another car?

I thought if a trailer was over a certain weight it needed to be braked? Thought i read it somewhere at some point. Maybe i'm just imagining things

Oooh, I'd have that if you could get it off. (My wheel is getting a bit 'sticky' - I've tried quite a few methods to re-seal the leather, but as soon as there's damp in the air, it gets sticky again)

ISTR that you need an Alfa puller to remove them.

Yeah, the Golf is an auto.... but I thought you could get something that lifts the front wheels off the ground?

Anyway - the TS clutch isn't that expensive. Had a new one fitted a couple of weeks back, along with a full service, transmission oil change, camchain re-tensioned, plugs, filters, etc for £288.

Clutch was £85 plus VAT.

that's quite reasonable, but if you want the wheels off the deck, then you'll need a spec-lift.. and that'll *F*CK* the Alfa.
