OT: For Free (sort of) - Hammond Organ

A while back I tried palming off my Hammond Organ onto any of the regulars, and a few of you said you might possibly be interested. Basically I'd rather "long-term loan" it to someone for nowt, on the condition that hopefully in a couple of years when I've got a place with enough space for it, I can have it back, but if someone wants it for 50 quid then I'll just sell it.

Here's some info about it from a post way back when (links to a usenet post in google groups):

I'm in Berkshire, and it *really* has to go by next weekend or sadly it'll go down the tip. It's got an RCA mono input for the Leslie, meaning that potentially anything could be lined in to it and weird and wonderful noises could be created, and I'd hoped to just take it apart, grab the leslie (plus some electronics that control it), and possibly make it continuously variable speed instead of twin-speed, but I haven't got around to that yet.

It fitted in a Mk2 Astra Van/Estate, to give an idea of the size of it.

I've also got some random bits for Mk3 Carltons and Escorts.

Not got an auto for the Carlton, have you?

Hmm I didn't realise that Hammond's organ had come off in the crash.

Nope, sadly not. Got a set of clocks, and a virtually new tailpipe off a 2 litre Estate, though.

What does one look like? No not Hammonds... Any pics?

Why not Ebay it?

It looks pretty much like any typical electric organ you find cluttering up a house with an electric organ in. But it's a Hammond one, meaning it says Hammond on, and it has a Leslie (rotary speaker) that gives the trademark swirly sound. It's not a particularly good model, and only has stops rather than drawbars - like I said, I'd personally like to just take the Leslie out of it to play with the electronics a bit and make it into a cheapo standalone Leslie.

No, but it's nothing particularly special to look at. It is in pretty decent nick, though.

Because a) I really can't be arsed, and b) I'd rather "long term loan" it to someone I at least vaguely know (i.e. from this group) so that I can maybe have it back a few years down the line. If there's no interest here I probably will ebay it.

You don't have anyone locally who could stick it in their loft? If you can travel up to Dunfermline, I'd give it space, but I suspect you may be a 'bit' south.

Unless I'm mistaken this is a picture of the same model as Peter is offering.

a big bugger by the looks of it. About the same size as my Yamaha D65.

By the looks of it they are not very saleable these days.. Mike.

You could stick it on Freecycle

and find a taker there.

Loft? Pah, you wouldn't get it up into a loft!

And cheers for the offer, but I might have an offer for storage just slightly closer!

Yup, that's it. And "D'oh". Ah well, if it comes to it I'll have to take it down the tip :-(

I have a mate who is a pro composer and keyboards player who has one - and they are simply too big and heavy for most gigs. They might well become collectable when rare, though.

Might have to. A while back when I offered it there were a few people interested (RichardK, PeteM's mate, and someone else), so was hoping I'd get rid of it on a "long term loan" basis (purely 'cos I quite like pissing about with the leslie at a later date). Ah well, I'm sure another will come along if I can ever be bothered in the future....

Yup, definitely - I've got the VK77 for gigging. As I've said, this Hammond isn't even that good as Hammonds go anyway - I'd just like to see someone who appreciates it for the mildly quirky old s**te that it is, taking it in and giving it a home!

Is SteveH not interested then? ;-)

He offered it to me.

Unfortunately, the only space I have for it is taken up by a Yamaha Clavinova.

Sir wants to move out of the Cardiff commuter belt, where sir could get himself a house double the size for the same money, and fill it up with all sorts of appreciating junk :-)

Heh, too late - managed to convince a friend of mine that he wanted one! Cheers anyway.

Other person was me :-) I'm still interested if you've still got it Pete - for my brother, and it would be ok to do a long-term loan with him...

Cheers

Mike P
