OT:Insurance renewal time again

I think ~ I've tried all the usual suspects. MORE TH>N come out on top so far. TESCO second. FLUX(highway) are nowhere near neither are L&V. I had to make a claim last year and it hasn't half bumped the premium up.

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for some others worth trying.

If you car is standard Elephant are very good. The MX5 is only costing £400 FC with me on it (and i had a claim in 2002 too).

DirectLine and Privilege are by *far* the cheapest for me. Unlike everyone else, they don't seem to care about Young-driver + High-group car. Which is nice :)

Privilege it is then :D

i had bigger probs finding some bastard that would insure an import, admiral were the best, elephant quoted the same but elephant is a gay name IMO and privalige had shit adverts. might try them next time mind shit advert aside.

budget were the funniest as they wanted £3300 FC for my MR2 and sent me a letter a week later asking if i'd like to take there 'unbeatable' quote! tossers!

A gay name? I'd insure with "Cocknockers-R-us" if they had the cheapest premium :-)

Tesco used to be great, but then they, DirectLine and Egg started=20 putting their "minimum value of =A31000 for the car" shit on.

The first car I ever insured was =A395 and the model was removed from=20 Glass's guide when the trade value dropped below =A32.50. How the hell am= =20 I supposed say that had a value of =A31000 for insurance, if anything else= =20 it would be fraudulant if I accepted cover based on it.

More than took the piss at over =A31k for every car I've insured, Tesco=20 were ballpark, Confused.com have always been between =A3300-2k out accross= =20 it's range of quotes. I always use confused when considering which car=20 to buy next, then knoick about =A3200 of their lowest quote.

Just before buying I'll check with LV and I'm usually ballpark with =A350. Haven't found any that are cheaper than LV, even those that charge you=20 for a phone call to their quoteline say "OK, what is your best quote",=20 give them my renewal quote, "Oh, can't get anywhere near that, it is=20 fully comp?", Yes, "Hmm, strange, wow, who was that with?,LV/Frizells,=20 "Hmm, never heard of them, are they a new company, you want to be=20 careful with these small companies you've never heard of as they can go=20 bust taking your policy with them, anyway, thanks for calling sorry we=20 couldn't get you a cheaper quote this time".

Been the same for the last 2 1/2 years.

i wanted to go with LV as i heard there pretty good but they won't insure an import :( shame as there mod policy is excelent :)

your right about confused.com they said admiral wouldn't quote as they don't do imports but if you go through there quote system online they do! although i still had to call them as it wouldn't quote online but at £1032 FC i was well surprised, i had to get the guy to double check as it was £600 less than the others quotes i had!

They do, I got a quote from them for an import Prelude.

Weird one it was too because it was a 1991 jap model, and they didn't come out in the UK until 1992. It worked out about 150-200 more than a UK prelude.

Also, their mod policy ain't so great anymore. Only a few very tame mods (like towbars or extra lights, kiddy seats) that they will cover. Everything else is noted, but not covered in the event of a claim. It means my policy is still valid, it means I can just about add to/change almost anything except the engine capacity(overbore or stroker)/engine for another size, as long as I tell them, but won't get a penny if I prang it myself. They used to cover everything as part of the policy, with very little premium increase (just the first mod im each category), but they stung once to often and their underwriters got scared off a little.

Er, that's what all insurance companies do :) If you actually want *cover* for your mods, then you have to pay a specialist.

Yeah, but they used to. That is what set them apart from the average insurer. They actually covered the car, and didn't charge you over the top.

Something to do with being a friendly society rather than being a shareholders company.

But too many scrotes street-racing and abusing it ruined things for sensible older modded car drivers.

And yes, I know you reckon I'm talking stereotypes, but I know of a Nova with 18's that was written off by a 20year old with them, and he got everything including the wheels and the 2 litre payed out for when he claimed (before they changed the engine swap rule). No loss of the Nova, but shame it shagged my decent insurance cover.

My alloys were covered with the NFU, and cost me nothing to add on :D If they had got bitchy, i woulda accepted a cheque for a set of standard alloys from a Pug dealer :)

That's what I don't get about modification policies, most of the time the parts are cheaper to replace than the equivalent dealer part but i'm biased against greedy insurance companies. I still reckon where mods are concerned they just make it up as they go.

i never understood why the premium increased with minor mods. if i tint the windows on my MR2 it goes up quite a bit. ooooo performance enhancing!
