OT: PC-based driving games

Hi,

can anyone recommend a networkable, PC-based racing game? Had a bit of a LAN party on Friday night, and I got leathered on all the FPS games so I need to find a car racing game quickly, or even motorbikes will do!

Shame there's no GT4 on the PC :(

Oh yeah, need a decent networkable flying/combat game too.

Comments appreciated!

GTR for the driving.

What sort of flying do you want to do?

Live for speed isn't bad:

What you need is the daddy of racing games... GPL. You should be able to find a copy really cheap these days. It may be old but the physics model is unsurpassed to this day.

Looking for it now ;)

Well, I've got FS2004 and I love it, but these guys here are blood-thirsty and want to shoot each other out of the sky. So, I'm guessing at some kind of WW1/2 bi-plane shooty thing...though I'd like a more recent one with proper fighter planes...

Oohhh, that looks nice, downloading it now. It has a dedicated server option too!

Grand Prix Legends? Looks good, £5 on Ebay too

Thanks!

Oh absolutely - best racer EVER!

Yup. Huge user community support too.

Try NeedforSpeed Underground 2

Decent graphics on a decent machine. Bit Fast'nFurious/Max Power because you need to mod your car. But network play rocks, and you can choose from Drift/Circuit/Sprint (point to point race) and drag. Ideally you need to complete part of the game to unlock circuits past the basics, but it is worth playing to get a feel of the car you choose to build up.

You can even go SUV racing with Hummers, Navigators etc.

Have to slow to 5mph for taking any corners though!

I've already got that, but I've not installed it yet for some reason. I'll give it a go!

Even on the drag circuit? ;)

Only on the SUV's, and even that can be sorted with judicial use of the handbrake.

If you go in fast enough, and turn on the handbrake, you can even make them fly.

Looks interesting, and there is "RB4 GT" that looks remarkabley like an ST205 GT4 too. Hmm

Yeah, NASCAR Racing 2003. The physics engine is great and if you don't like going roundy round there are plenty of mods and tracks available for download eg:

Open Wheel Mod (IRL cars)

TPTCC: (Mustangs/Covettes/Vipers etc)

There are loads of tracks to download if you google for 'em.

IRL at Oulton Park is mental...

Oh yeah, forgot to mention: get the TPTCC mod and you can do the Bull Run

1000; a 1000 mile endurance race. Do this, and you'd better have a second driver with you...

Toca Race Driver 2 is ok if you want an arcade style race. You can download a multiplayer demo for this with 3 tracks and 3 cars, there's a crack available so you can use any of the 3 cars on any of the 3 tracks. GTR if you want a more simulation orientated game.

Grand Prix Legends :-)
