OT: WOOHOO

This is a good point.

You can get a pretty good E36 3-series Coupe for that kind of money.

Then it's better to buy a banger that has a couple of years life left in it, and stick the loan repayments away in a bank account every month.

Suddenly, after a couple of years, you find yourself in a position to go out and buy a tidy motor with cash.

thats not important richard, its a common failing of this group that all we do is argue what is the best, fastest, quickest, sharpest ride for a certain price bracket, I like the 406 coupe, its a georgious car with a very nice interior and a sweet V6 engine.....

Tell me what you think is better for 5k?

Yea but if you're buying a 406 V6 Coupe, you want something fairly quick, and nice looking. Barring a 330 or M3, which would cost more, and be older, none of them are as quick and none of them look as nice. Just because what a car looks like doesn't matter to you, doesn't mean it doesn't matter to everyone ;) For example, if you needed a people carrier , and the Fiat multipla was the best you could find for the cash you had, could you REALLY bring yourself to be seen in it...? I know i couldn't.....

325i Coupe. Plenty fast enough. Doesn't look as nice as a 406, granted, but it'll not break down as often. Especially important if you're tied into a 4 year loan / finance agreement.

And yes, I would have a Multipla if I needed a people carrier - simply because it's by far the best vehicle in it's class.

Something which can't be said about the 406 Coupe.

No, there isn't. Which is why I keep my old hack clean and tidy.

However, taking pride in what I drive doesn't take priority over keeping money in my bank account.

IMHO, £5k over 4 years is far too much of a financial comittment for a 'nice' car, when there's so much available for a couple of week's take-home out there.

That's probably the best time to buy - when they're down to cash purchase levels.

I know 406 Coupe owners, who had new cars, and 3 year old cars, where the trim was falling off, one had a blown headgasket at 75K (FSH, 3.0), paint blemishes when new. And I've yet to hear anything really /good/ about them - that the main thing.

Honda Accord Coupe, V6, £6995 at our local Honda dealer, on an X plate.

I reckon £5.5K for cash.

Thats a mater of opinion though. They are stunning cars IMO, and i would love to own one simply because of that. Theres nothing wrong with taking pride in what you drive! Although i'd probably go for the HDi cause it'd probably be cheaper to run and would make a beautiful daily driver. Maybe in a year or 2...

not true. I tend to keep my cars to about 150-200k miles, so for me a 4 yr or 5 yr loan on a low milage car is fine.

Its Cheater's choice actually ;)

They chip to 180bhp and 400nm easy don't they ;)? I want one too :D

Four years is a long time to 'budget' for.

Well if you can budget for it, make the repayments, and still live on what you've got left, then why not. Personally i'd take the Mi16 option at the moment, but thats just me.

I agree with you, i havent kept a car for much more than a year since my first car, so i probably wouldnt commit to it, but its Theo's choice not ours, and it sounds like he's made up his mind!

Lets hope so :)

Whatever :)

NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE :p

It would be quicker than the V6 when on the road then, with all that torque. Doesn't the V6 make about 320nm?

139bhp > 172bhp 353Nm > 432Nm Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

True, but depends on your situation. Some are more stable than others!

No, Turbo's rule :)

A lame 285. Diesel rules!

There's no such thing as 'stable' these days.

I probably work in one of the most secure environments (people will always need food and all that), but it's certainly not what I'd call 'stable'.

Yea but if you can't fit them yourself, you need to find a beemer specialist really, which i can't imagine are cheap.

I havn't seen any evidence of them having a bad rep, they seem to come up quite well on
