Hmm, not really. It's the wrong colour and with no mileage quoted and a £2000 price tag it's probably been to the moon and back. Besides, around

10-12K would get an alloy bodied 4.2V8, possibly even a supercharged V8 with 25-40k miles.

OTOOH that car looks tidy in the photos and I'd actually consider it for a commuter vehicle because I love the AJ16 engine.

However wife spending my money as fast as I can earn it at present. She's just bought another house. That's the money I had earmarked for a new XJR gone.

Are you TRYING to give the toomtard material...?

I quite like the colour, and, as you say, it would be a fine commuter hack. Especially at pretty much disposable prices.

The inline 6 appeals, as it's only proper for a Jag. to have an inline

  1. Not one of those crude Merkin V8s ;-)

Probably quite a sensible plan, given the current state of the market.

In a couple of years it said house will have made enough to easily buy an XJR.

Heh, the tard in Toomtard is something he has worked hard to attain.

Yes, that's the real attraction with it. It's the first XJ6 that Jaguar got absolutely right AFAIC. The engine was developed to being the best six they had ever done with 24V and as rugged as heck. The next engine, the V8 Nikasil, was a bit of a disaster.

The negative is that it's the Sport, not the Sovereign and for me that colour. You'd lose in the traffic snooker stakes.

I hope. It's actually yet another part of the retirement plan.

A couple - hmm, I'd have said at least 5-6 years for it to be worth any worthwhile amount more. Purely IMHO, yadayadayada....

Yeah, well, if you're buying now, which may not be the absolute bottom of the market - but it'll be pretty close - there will be longer term money to be made.

It's only my current employment predicament that isn't making me think in the same way.

Is everything OK at the moment work wise?

Fine, aside from my employers pissing off back home.

ETA: Apologies to Timo for that one, but you're pretty much accepted as an eccentric Brit these days anyway ;-)

Ouch.

Did you not stand a chance of a relocation to CabbageLand?

Steve Firth

I can't speak Cabbage - although there are jobs available over there.

But the cabbage-tat retail business is deceased in the UK, ASAP.

That's bad news, and I'm sorry to hear it. There are loads of jobs going in my line of work, but it needs specialised knowledge of Networking and "stuff" and TBH it can be boring as f*ck. Pays well though.

Sorry to hear it fella. As you know, I went through two redundancies in 4 months, Alison got made redundant 3 years ago, and managed to keep her job this time after the re-organisation. When I asked about the Octie/Superb early last month, it was all go to borrow the cash from her folks, but that quickly went on hold because "Some staff positions will remain the same, other people will be redeployed, no body will be redundant" changed to "All the previously assigned people are safe, but out of those who need to be slotted into new places 60 will be redundant" in the space of a week.

Anything on the job horizon? Just think of it as a decent Xmas break if you can afford it, and get a New Year, New Job ready. Screw them, if they can't cut it. Their loss.

Still employed until the end of Feb., then have a 2 month redunancy settlement plus around 6 weeks worth of bonus pay.

Not desperate yet, but I've had a few interviews. Should get the results of them early next week. Hopefully I'll land one, as the redundancy money is earmarked for a retro touring bike....

I didn't trust the new MD from the day he came over from cafe service.... always thought he had no interest in consumer retail and only knew how to manage a B2B sales business, and I have been proven correct.

Looks like the redundancy money is being paid this month.... which is handy, as I can pretty much do what the hell I want when that's in the bank!

Best of luck.

Alison got lucky, she knows what division and job level she will be at even if she doesn't know the exact duties. They who got offered but turned it down would be considered as resigning and not eligible for redundancy.

Those who are made redundant could take a month garden leave from Dec

08, but thing is, the union isn't even meeting to finalise the redundancy deal until the 9th. So people can either appeal the redundancy decission, or take garden leave before they even know what they are going to get. Bit shifty that.
