Re: More Golf progress.

Got a new heater return hose this morning, and broke the heater feed hose

But from the sound of it, better now than later. If you broke it that easily it was on the way out.

Indeedy, when I put the return hose next to the new one the original was swelled to about 1/3 of the size again.

Nightmare to change the buggers though, VW insist on using these spring clips instead of proper Jubilee ones and they're a pain to get at. I've now got the proper locking pliers though..

Supposed to be much more secure than Jubilee clips though.

The PITA is having to accumulate a selection of specialist tools.

There should be a bypass valve on one of the hoses too, it should have been fitted as part of a recall to stop the heater matrix bursting.

Yup, it had a new upgraded matrix fitted about 18 months ago and the bypass was removed at the same time. I'd do the same to be honest, the bypass ruins the heater and the upgraded matrix is a lot stronger than the original VW one so it should be ok. If I burn my ankles I'll re-fit the bypass but until then I'll live without it. My old LHD Mk2 had the bypass and the heater was abysmal until I removed it.

Sorry for not snipping or shortening the URLs but I really can't be arsed.

They're pics of the Golf, by the way.

That is another option. I'm trying to keep it looking pretty standard but with a twist.

I'd be severely tempted to take the GTI trims off that, dehole the doors etc. But I wouldn't because I'm still mentally scarred by the experience of flatting my car for months on end. Only to find some imperceptible until painted dents in the driver's door...

Nah, I want to leave the bodywork as standard as possible. The only things I might do to the body - excluding paint - are possibly Mk4 handles and quite likely G60 arches.
