But an honourable one. Excessive corrosion OSF Chassis leg. Excessive leakage front exhaust box. non functioning indicator side repeaters (they worked a couple of days ago).
Asked the garage which welder they recommended, went to see him, he has patched the chassis, and the exhaust was a weld cracked all the way round so he ground it off and rewelded. When he called to say it was done, he said he had fixed the repeaters too (I was going to do it once the welding was done), it was just corrosion in the bulb sockets. Total cost, MOT fee, £50 repair, free retest tomorrow.
Yay I call that a result for a drunken blind buy.

Ah, the delightful driveshaft tunnels...
The long thin box under the gearlever/handbrake? Yes... I know it well...
The 900i we took on the Dakar lost the entire exhaust aft of the front of that box, somewhere in Mauritania.
The exhaust that was on the T16 when I got it failed at the front weld. New genuine GM exhaust. The rear weld failed. Welded that up. Now the front weld's gone.
Have you got the exhaust support bracket bolted onto the rear of the gearbox? Mine was missing...

I think it may have been more extensive than that. I had that bit fail on the B reg but it was fixed between MOTs when I was getting the ball joints changed.
Didn't see it on the ramps, either at the test or at the welders, but the test centre said "he will be able to see it" and when he reached under in front of the front wheel said yeah pretty crispy. Still cheap enough fix.
I don't know if the bracket is there. It should be, nothing on that car has been touched since it left Will Gollop's hands (I like to think he had personal involvements with it).
The exhaust is the totally original one, and I think it was the long thin box, again, I didn't look, I left it to the welder. And I think it was the front weld. Will have a look once the ticket it back on it.
I'll look see where it is welded and whether the bracket is present. I know how integrated the whole Saab exhaust is, pretty much under tension when correct, and when I got it the tail pipe hanger was missing, it was cable tied up hard to the chassis hanger. And the tail pipe to back box join was free to rattle around because the clamp wasn't tightened, but the clamp was rusted solid, so the whole system wobbled around. That was probably enough to break the weld.

Yeh, it probably would be.
Without the bracket, there's no support between the turbo and the centre box under the rear seat. It was hanging a bit low on mine, and my commute is mainly back lanes, so lots of grounding of that box - which really didn't help...
There's two rubber-band hangers for the centre box, and one for the tail pipe - so not a lot of spare capacity...

The bat mobile lives again. Had a look at the chassis plate, about 3x2 on the underside of the rail. Was going to underseal it, but already done nice and thick.
Haven't looked at the exhaust yet, but it is so quiet now. I've lost a lot of the burble though.
