should be none if i rememer right as it should be a 3SGTE engine, what's the cunning plan?
I thought almost all engines were interference-designs these days, what with modern compression-ratios etc.
Is that not the case ?
If you are planning a big boost engine, get a Cometic 1.2mm metal headgasket, and do a forged build. It will last a lot longer.

It's a turbo to start with 8.1:1 compression I think. Also, apart from still being used in the Caldena in japan, its not exactley a "these days" engine. Been arround since the 80's. Gen 1 and gen 2 used the same head. Gen 3 and 4 use a different one. The compression on gen 3 and beyond maybe higher because they come with a metal headgasket and produce more boost, and can take more boost, right from the off.
I know where theres one with a snapped belt. I heard rumours that it was non-interference, it i knew that and the owner didn't i'm sure i could enter jap-scrap(tm) motoring relatively cheaply

it's none interference due to the shape of the cylinder head i think. if it has a 2.2 stroker kit then it can f*ck the engine up if it snaps i heard.
I'd be quietly confident it doesn't have a stroker kit ;)
Should be non interference, as long as it is on standard cams.. Do the belt, tensioner and ancilary belts while you are at it.
I understand it is best done with the engine out, and taken out with the gearbox and transfer in unit still attached.
and then buy and add one after a new cam belt is added to bring it to 2.2? :)
They pop under big power. Fensport have removed it from the Corolla as it kept popping blocks.
that's weird as i know a few MR2's with the HKS stroker kits and they seem fine?
I think they were using 205 blocks in the corolla, even thick walled TTE ones popped for them.
still 2.2 sounds the nuts........... before they pop :)
