I agree, it is not clever to do this, Just pointing out it will work a bit, at the expense of efficiency and reliability.

with the odd notable exception for cars that are detuned for certain markets - the 140bhp 2.4l volvos for example.
I disagree.
It could only (possibly) work on *really* old injection systems.
And if you really do have a vehicle like this which runs a tad weak and would be helped by increasing the fuelling, it's easier and better to do this by increasing the fuel pressure. Like on early Rover V-8 EFIs.
