Tuning the Tdi???????????

Well it had to happen sooner or later. i've decided i want to tune the Astra van.Problem is i don't know where to start, its mechanical fueling with a piddly little turbo and intercooler.

I was thinking along the lines of upping the boost slightly getting the fuelling increased and whacking on a huge FMIC

something like this

But a few problems have appeared.

1 its a diesel

2 its a diesel

I know FA about derv and derv tuning so anyone care to offer some pointers on whether the above is even feasible.

ta much guys

The best mod you can do is chuck the diesel lump and stick that red top in.

Fuelling / Boost / smoke are all inter-related and need adjusting in tandem.

Have van aiken or similar look at it.

Its easy. More boost just gives more air, no extra power. More fuel just gives smoke, no extra power. Both give extra power! You want to see traces of black smoke as boost is increased, via a bleed or whatever.

Why not buy something with the power you want?

By the time you've tweaked that old nail of a lump, it'll either blow up or have cost loads more than buying something like a VAG TDi and chipping it.

Is it the Vauxhall TD or the Isuzu TD? Either way, none are particularly that good, and ISTR someone mentioning the Isuzu being a bit prone to head gasket failure at around the 120k mark (cue posts saying that "mine lasted

300k, original everything, including tyres and light bulbs").

Basically, they're not worth tuning. If you want to tune something get a decent derv to start with, like a VAG TDI.

Replace it with a 2.0 16valve TDI lump. then chip it to 188Bhp
