Swap my X20XEV for a 3.0 TD!!! (well the 2.5TDS fitted)
Err hes talking about a C20XE NOT the XEV, which is quite a different engine altogether, and IMHO *far* better than any BM straight 6 of a similar age.
Depends on what you want. The BMW 6 is a classic design and one of the smoothest units around. Power output isn't everything.
One would assume that someone wanting to go to the trouble of transplanting a Vauxhall engine into a BMW is not doing it for a smoother engine... :)
Erm, assuming you mean the 2.0 straight six ? It's as slow as a dog in comparison to the C20XE engine.
smoothness doesn't get you up hills/nice cruising. An efficient engine with similar power/torque peaks will.
Martin Imber waffled on in a quite bewildering manner to produce...
Seem to remember Williams BMW in the early 80's getting 1400 BHP out of one of them.
Turbo the size of a cottage loaf and some minor tweakage though...

And didn't it only run for 15 minutes or something? :-)
Pete.
Three laps. One lap out, one qualifying lap and one back in. They used the blocks from elderly second-hand 318s, since they had been stress relieved over 100K miles. And it was over 1500bhp. 1000bhp/litre. Now *that's* what I call a specific power output.
Better specific power output than a drag racer and lasts more than 1/4 mile.
Bit like the current M3, then.
It was 2002 blocks they used. Grenade spec engines 1500bhp in qualifying,
Hi Pete
Didn't our Nigel the Plod drive one of them?.
No , he was driving for Lotus then. Piquet drove the BMWs. Nige still drove the Honda with around the same power in 1985/86 though

Hi Mike
Ah! brain like a sieve for facts is me, i remember almost getting run over by an on fire Ferrari whilst walking down the pit lane the day before the British grand-prix at brands, i think Nige Plod was driving that.
