And once again Clarkson finds an excuse to hate the Vauxhall. Provoking massive understeer like that! The Ford would, if he drove it like that.

Mazda seemed a bit tidy though :)

He certainly was provoking the understeer, but The Stig had pretty terrible understeer as well and I believe that he genuinely would have been trying for the fastest lap that the car was capable of.

Heh yeah fair play. But when you look at the lap times it was a nadgers less than a second slower than the Focus ST which he raved about. And considering the extra size and weight of the Vauxhall...

What was just below the Mazda on the list? Why didn't he mention that? ;)

Hah, can't imagine! The AMG was in the wet though :P

And for completeness sake, the Vectra beat the Civic Type R by over a second ;)

I've shortlisted an MPS as my next car. Current order of likely hood is 06 Subaru STI, 05 Liberty GT, Lancer EVO or an 05 MPS..

Never seen the obsession for turning off the traction control - on front drivers with no limited slip diff the traction control acts in place of one.

Again, traction control off with the ST. I remember the Volvo would do all the tyre smoking thing on bends with the TC off but with it on was much more hooked into the road.

'zactly. It's a feature of the car to help it keep shipshape through the twistys with all that power.

Switching off on a rear drive car however...

I thought that too. The vectra was just above the Alfa 147 GTA which I seem to remember him raving about as right laugh because it had some much power to the front wheels. Bit of a hooligan car. The Vectra was exactly the same but it got slated.

Well nice. I like the look of the new ones - my neighbour has the TDi one which even looks pretty smart IMO.

The excuse being that it's s**te, like all Vauxhalls.

Oh hang on no there are two decent Vauxhalls, the VX220 and the Monaro. Of course neither has anything to do with Vauhall apart from the badge.

Did you guys get the Monaro Coupe 4? The 4wd version of the Monaro.

Fraser

Nope. That would have been impressive; there's a Ute version with the

4x4 stuff isn't there?

Yep. And an estate. Not the sedan though. Truth be told they are amazingly overrated. The estate 4x4 was a huge flop. There is a few of the cross 8 dual cab utes running around but most people over here just by Landcruisers as they are a far better option.

Fraser

Didn't the focus RS have a torsen diff though - hence my many previous comments that they should be timing cars without limited slip diffs with the traction control on.
