I was one of those kids, who grew up in a little town, wearing black, and listening to Sabbath and the Damned, and later the Cramps, then the charty goth stuff that made it onto the local radio rock show, when they had run out of poodle perm rock to play. Didn't know I was already a goth until I got to college, and realised there was a buch of people there just like me. All different, but all sharing similar tastes.

I was originally subverted by lodger we had in the late 70's. When the rest of the kids were listening to ABBA, I had cassettes of Stiff Little fingers and the Damned. people thought I was weird then.

Since "coming back" to the scene, I've discovered the corp goth mailing list, for people working in mainstream office/business environments. They are mainly US, but there are a couple of dozen brits on there.

Lots are technical types, but you find a lot of property and legal people in there who get away with being weird in various ways.

Alison thought it was just just a phase/midlife crisis I was going through, but for Xmas she bought me a beautiful spanish silver celtic ring, and her mate bought me a pendant for cat sitting for her. she does get pissed that I'm better at applying eyeliner than she is though.
