What do you think of these (alloys)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did the Calibra really come on a G-plate? - the earliest I can recall seeing is an H-plater......

Looking at ebay, I still reckon the cheapest way to get a working Calibra is to buy one in that condition, they seem to be worth less than f*ck all these days.

It'll be more likely that it's terminally rotten, tbh.

However, at that price, you will more than make your money back on things like the headlights (yes, even headlights as s**te as a Calibras, are worth something), should you decide to do the decent thing, and break it.

P.S: You're the bastard son of whoever that welsh gimp who played 'Huw / Hugh' in Eastenders was, aren't you... :-P

Fuck know's if i'm not talking sense then blame it on the fact i've had basically no sleep in 2 days! We have a full workshop at my house, spray guns, hi lift jack's, arch and tig welders so I can do pretty much what I want.

Plus I have 2x mi16 engines which means I have alot of spares, and the mi16 is more than powerful enough. So whats wrong with that?

Awful. I see those and wonder why it has a handle on the back. Doesn't matter if it's on a Calibra, Laguna, Alfa 156 or a Supra Mk IV, they're stupid and serve no real purpose.

The rear skirt didn't make any visual impact on me.

Ugh, there's a Mk 4 Escort Orion (Mk II Orion?) around here with one of those. It should be banned, since pissing oneself laughing when driving is dangerous.

Yeah. I reckon the Calibra's front bumper is shagged from that pic before, and it's not that bad looking. It will be overpowering in red, though.

You mean a Vauxhall red-top 16v to go in there, I hope, and not an Mi16 as you stated elsewhere? Mi16 is an actual engine type, not a generic term for a 16v lump.

Personally, I reckon you should go for making it look stock and nice. It's a more valuable skill and the car will be more desireable (not to mention attract less pisstaking) afterwards.

They certainly did, although not many were registered on a G.

The V6s still hold their money, relatively speaking of course. And obviously a well pampered 4x4 Turbo will as well, but overall, they've had their day in the eyes of the general public.

I'd still like a V6 if it weren't for the headlight and maintenance issues, and the fact I know damn well a 200SX will be a far better, fun, long term bet.

I actually quite fancy a Calibra. I'll swap your mate my 2.6 Carlton saloon with possible HG problem for it.

I have a suggestion, then.

The car is basically scrap and you want to play.

Cut the roof off. Make a Calibra convertible. Strenthen the sills, top of the A-pillar, windscreen if you fancy getting creative with tubing, reinforce the rear 1/4 panel, make a bootlid and a 'hood cover' (don't worry about the hood for now). You have frameless doors, will almost certainly need to weld ahead of the rear suspension anyway, and with all that stuff, I'd be inclined to have some fun.

For a hood, you can do something pretty basic. The idea is to look good with it down, not up. The hardest part will be the header rail, which I'd be inclined to make out of hardwood. Study an MGB for a simple way of attaching a hood header rail to a windscreen.

(btw, that Mi16 Peugeot lump is going to be a right bitch to fit into a Calibra, and worse to insure when you're done ;) ).

So sell them onto equally mad 205 GTi owners, and spend some of the money raised on another redtop lump for your car, which incidentally will just plug straight into the loom (what do you mean, there's no loom either!), and you'd have it done in less than a day... or feel free to spend weeks, trying to patch a loom onto an engine and box which needs bespoke shafts made, never mind mounts etc.

The main point being... you'd not be improving much, if at all over the redtop the car originally came with (a well respected, powerful and easy to extract more power from) engine.

Either that, or sell said engines, and the car in question, and go and buy a straight Calibra 16v with the proceeds - I picked one up a few months ago for £350, with MOT and tax, and 17" League alloys, Momo steering wheel etc.

Far less hassle.

Oh, and no... I doubt very very much if they share mounts.

He wants a 740 7 seater ;)

Richard (but I don't want a Calibra).

Nothing gratuitous use of angle grinder/welder couldnt fix.

Alright, I'll swap you my Carlton for his Calibra? (c:

How much does your mate want for his Calibra?

Bought it word of mouth - bloke wanted shot of it asap, and I had the cash handy, so the deal was done.

Rotten pile of poo, on closer inspection... as are most, that vintage... and I'll reiterate, they have Satans own headlights, they're that bad, old or new.

I think the secret here is to stay the f*ck away from ebay and its feverent little clicky clickers, and head into the real world.

It probably helps to know where to look. I've been offered some quite interesting cars for £quite cheap by backstreet garages and car dealers who dont feel they can really unleash them on the forecourt.

Yeah I know they are pug mi16 1.9 16v engines, I will take a look at the loom and everything when I get the car (he said everything was there except the head, block sump and radiator). It's no bother to me if it takes weeks, it will be somthing to do and I like a challenge.

I have a 1.8i 8v opel kadett engine that can slot straight in if it's much too difficult (anything to do with electronics and it can go f*ck itself).

Well, i'm not saying it wouldn't be a little bit a ballache to do (to put it slightly mildly...) but the Mi16 lump is better :) But then, an Mi16 is better than a Calibra as well, so, after he'd swopped the engines, he'd do well to swop the chassis, and the rest, and have an Mi16 engined Mi16 :)

I would have to ask my dad first but where could I sell these engines, I have everything to go with them (ecu, loom, gear box... etc), and how much should I expect for them?

I've seen them advertised for £400?
