It's true it's not actually there at the moment, it's currently in JonCedric's barn waiting for the arch repair panels to be delivered.

Thing is, for everyday use, there's so little in it between quality diesel barges, it's a pointless argument.

And yes, I'm calling the Passat a 'quality' barge, 'cos the fit and finish is streets ahead of that of the mainstream opposition.

Indeed it is, and as a lease car it makes sense, apart from the non-leaseplan-lease costs being similar to a 320d or C220cdi. With your choices I suppose it made some sense.

As a purchase it makes less sense, although it needs less outlay. I would never criticise the passat as a car - it's a good choice, it's smaller brother the Golf appeals to me more as it is more right-sized and agile, and cheaper. But I like my cars bigger and softer, and the E works well.

BTW, got my eye on a well specced but wrong engined E220Cdi if the insurers decide to land me a cheque instead of a repair...

If your Golf has an interference engine (many VW diesels do), then make sure your timing belt is always in good shape and correctly installed. Otherwise someday you will have an engine to replace.

Dude, remember, ages ok, you posted a power curve link that showed a Civic Type R next to a normal 2.0 16v engine and showed that it made just as much torque low down - can you remember where you found that?
