Fuel pump died on I-10 on way from Tucson to Phoenix, doh!

My 88GT Convertible broke again today. I love when things break, it gives me an opportunity to replace the broken items with fun goodies :) But breaking down on I-10 on the way home to Phoenix from Tucson wasn't much fun. The fuel pump died. Luckily I was able to safely coast onto an exit. I made it to the end of the exit. I had the girlfriend jump in the drivers seat and I pushed us to the gas station where I called AAA. I am a plus member so getting towed home the remaining 70 miles was free ;) I'll definitely be renewing my membership.

At any rate I am considering a Walbro GSS340 fuel pump (255LPH I believe). My engine is all stock. The rest of the fuel system is stock as well. Are there drawbacks to running a high volume fuel pump with a stock fuel system?

Also, I almost have a full tank of gas. How should I remove the gas from the tank and what kind of container can I store it in?

Yours went for the fourth time in what time frame? This will be my 2nd in about 2 years.

Patrick,

The replacement before this was a generic part (which was always hideously loud). I just bought a Walbro GSS340 which is a 255LPH pump. It is in the tank now and the tank is waiting to go back in the car :)

Thinking it was a good deal, I bought a lifetime warranty pump from Checker for $70. So they replaced it each time, except I had to do the labor. This time it was a stock Ford pump. So either I'll have a new 'spare' Checker pump or they'll give me a store credit.
