It is the only reason I can come up with. All other things consider the Vette should more then give any Cobra a run for it's money. The biggest contributing factor is the driver. You would be surprised to find out how many people who own High Performance vehicles can't drive worth a s*it.

When it comes to straight line performance with stock cars and evenly matched drivers, the Cobra will smoke the C5 every time. I've seen (and lined up against) dozens of both makes in 1/4 mile passes at several different tracks over the last couple of years and it's no contest. The Z06 is different story of course.
