Opinions on 289 build please

I am just finishing up on a rebuild of the 289 for my 67 Cougar drag car, suggestions comments welcome. Here are the specs.

67 289 +.030 Keith Black KB116 .200 Dome pistons C60E heads, approx 52cc with -.030 deck fully ported, 1.94/1/6 vavles roller rockers etc Edelbrock Victor Jr. Port matched Holley 700cfm DBL Pumper cam is Elgin E952P 238/248 @.050 512/536 lift 112 lobe seperation C4 trans with shift kit and TCI 3500 stall 4.62 geared 8" Removed all useless stuff...ie wiper motor, blower box, factory dash/harness removed and new one piece alum added. All headlight assy components gone.(Man those things are heavy)

Any ideas on performance etc, it is going to be a 1/8 ET car just a toy to occupy the weekends and aggrivate the wife.

Thanks in advance

What size tire? I'm assuming something around 26"

With that cam a 289 will want to turn some rpm to make power. My guess is you could make around 350hp, but its going to be in the 7000-8000 rpm range so I hope you have a good bottom end. Also its not going to have much of a bottom end. For a 1/8 mile car I'd probably want a looser converter to get out of the hole hard and fast.

Sounds like fun

I'm kinda confused as to why you waited until AFTER the build for opinions and suggestions. Isn't it kinda late to change anything without costing another disassembly/reassembly plus parts? :)

I predict 8 seconds for the 1/8th, and maybe dip into thr high 7's under perfect conditions & tune.

I didn't wait to get opinions, I built the car the way I wanted it to run. I did my homework before hand and just wanted some other views. BTW, whoever guessed at High 7's low 8's was right on the money. I ran it this weekend but have a major misfire at anything over 5k. I haven't swapped the factory point distro for electronic yet (I am this week). So I just changed my shiftpoint to 5k and went for consistancy on the maiden trip. Ran 8.30-8.33 9 runs in a row. I think once I get the misfire sorted and swap the holley 4778 main body with a ProForm main body and move up a couple jet sizes I will be in the high 7's no problem. Also my line lock wouldn't hold so I was leaving the line at about 1500-1800 rpm, way to low...Oh and I am running 29x9x15 tires. Thanks for the replies
