Rice Question? (poll)

I was thinking... Is a Mustang v6 with a fake shaker hood rice? They are shipping that way from Ford. I'm leaning towards yes. What do you think?

I haven't seen any that way. It's a completely different hood, not just a hood with a hole cut out and a shaker plunked in. They are making them with fake hoodscoops though. Just like the GT's. Plenty of those out there. I'd rather have a GT with the stock V6 hood without the fake scoop.

Sorry. Mustang v6's are NOT shipping with shaker hoods direct from Ford. Most "dressed up" v6's (and some gt's) have been outfitted (either by the dealer itself, or dealer has subbed the work out to a local shop) with aftermarket (read CDC) shakers/hoods. Just another ploy to make $$.

Rice - no Bad Taste - yes

I beg to differ on this one. If the Ford dealerships are having shakers installed on V6s and GTs, why would this be in bad taste? After all, it's a functional scoop - much unlike the one that usually adorns the hood of GTs and the (I believe) Pony V6s.

It could even be a performance enhancer, albeit a slight one. I'm not so sure that would be bad taste.

I'm pretty sure, though, that what most people are seeing is the Pony package V6 with the GT's fake hood scoop.

My Local dealer has like 5 v6 mustangs with the fake scoop and the spoiler. (the lone GT has no scoop) I noticed Ford website made no mention of the scoop on low end modelds but I did not look close enough on the sticker to see if it showed as dealer installed.

Bad taste because the dealers are putting "bling bling" on a car, trying to make it look like a Mach 1, which it is not.

Nah, no performance enhancement, just a neat throwback to the cobrajet days - sure its functional, but ram-air? don't think so (and I do own an '03 mach 1). Matter of factly, if you check over at mach1registry, you'll see that there are some CAI's that bypass the shaker, and CAI's that attach to the shaker... and the ones that make the shaker non-functional are the ones that gain the most power - verified by dynos. This is simple - way less turbulence in the air path.

Nah, I've seen the "shaker" hoods too - kit from CDC includes a shaker and hood with a hole in it (although the shaker doesn't attach to anything - it just shakes). Oh yeah.... It ALSO includes a couple of "MACH II" badges....

Bad taste IMO ...but that's just MO - and my 2¢

Exactly, is the fake hood scoop and side vents on a 64-66 Thunderbird rice, or in poor taste? What about the fake brake scoops on a 69 Mach1? Or the fake scoops and flares on a 74 Trans Am? I don't understand the thought behind the guys saying that the new Mustangs are "riced" because Ford put a fake hood scoop on it.

If you have to ask, you probably already know the answer.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm tired of fake, non-functional, tacked-on crap that hangs off cars today. It's all marketing bullshit, designed to attract dumbass kids that have no clue whatsoever. I laugh at Rice Boys and their

4-foot tall Bookshelf Winds, yet my '98 GT has one hanging off the back that is just about as functional. If it wouldn't leave ugly, gaping holes, I'd do away with it.

If it blows your skirt up, do it. If my name were on the pink slip, I'd spend the bucks on something that actually improved driveability or performance. Some of the absolute BEST mods you can do to a Mustang are those that have no asthetic value whatsoever.

Look at Charlene, and you'll see what I mean. All the stripes, tint, fake scoops and bling-bling doo-dads in the world don't mean SHIT when you hit the twisties, drop a gear, roll on the throttle, and apply a death grip on the steering wheel, expecting serious performance that will leave others following behind you gasping in awe.

Mustangs aren't about show. They're about GO. And that's what separates Riceboys from the drivers.
