95 Nissan Pathfinder Odometer Problem

I have a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder SE-V6 4x4 that runs extremely well. The speedometer & cruise control work fine, but the odometer works when it wants to. I recently drove from Florida to New York, and put on 2400+ miles. The odometer only moved 410 miles.

Do I have to replace the speed sensor to fix this problem? Or is the problem in the gauges?

Thanks

The 85 Blazer probably uses an armored cable. You may want to take it off and grease the inside of the cable. The Nissans uses an electronic sensor, just like all the newer vehicles have these days.

You're probably going to find that the speedometer assembly needs replaced when all is said and done.

The odometer started acting funny on me about a year and a half ago or so and then shortly thereafter the speedometer starting dying out as well. Since the speedometer part is functioning fine, your speed sensor is fine.

FYI, the part number for my speedometer on my '95 XE model was

24820-75P03 and the retail price is something around $168.00.

The neat thing about them is you no longer have to worry about breaking any retaining pins on the replacement assemblies trying to match the old mileage. You simply give the parts department the mileage you want the new assembly set for and when it comes in, it will already be set for the mileage you specified.
