Brake light 2000 Xterra Cold Weather

I have noticed recently in colder weather (under 30 degrees), when I first start my Xterra, the brake light stays on. It will eventually turn off but the emergency brake is not and I am curious as to what may be causing this light to stay on for a while.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Bruce, Check your brake fluid level. It may be low and after the engine compartment heats up the brake fluid expands and kicks off the light. Just a shot. Sparky

The light also comes on if your brake fluid is low. If its not, then one of the switches (parking brake on or low fluid) is probably sticking in the cold.
