I've heard that carburetor cleaner is not good for (Nissan?) throttle bodies. I think it had something to do with a coating on the TB.
What should be used to clean it ? ('99 Maxima).

I use Berkebile Air Intake Cleaner (Stock number B3500) with no problems, but then again it's specifically made for that purpose. In a pinch in the shop we use to use the Berkebile Carb Cleaner spray and never had any problems at that time (pre 1997). Anyhow, here's a link to the Berkebile site:

Throttle body cleaner.
??
I think the key is not to spray it directly into the throttle body but to apply a cleaner to a rag and just wipe out the worst of the goop. You don't have to get it clean enough to eat off of, just get rid of the worst of the crap around the throttle plate area. That said I do use BG's throttle body cleaner mainly because it really attacks the carbon buildup quickly.
If you get heavy spraying around you could easily wash trash into the bushings and into the throttle switch ect and cause worse problems..
I'll check it out. There's a NAPA store near by.
Thanks,
