how to read obd1 codes for '94 sentra

hi all,

i am trying to help a woman in college figure out what is wrong w/ her '94 sentra. the check engine lite is on and i am certain that there is a way to extract the codes w/o a computer reader. anyone know the procedure?

I think you need a code read. Like a similar post, what color is the check engine light? If it's yellow, it's most likely an emissions related problem. MAF, dirty throttle body, faulty gas cap etc.
