motor sqeak

When I start my 89 240 first thing in the morning lately the car squeals like crazy for the first 15, 20 seconds and then periodically after, any ideas? Any quick fixes?

A squeal is usually a loose or glazed accessory belt. If the belts are new and properly tensioned, check the pulleys for a failing bearing.

Don't know where you are, but on cars in the U.K. a very similar noise to belt screech, is impending failure of the water pump.

that's what I thought but I guy I work with said if the temp gauge hasn't changed the pump should be good?

Driving a V.W. Van through France one summer, we had a noise that could have been a slipping belt or water pump, no difference in engine temperature for about 30 miles. Suddenly the noise stopped so we investigated. The water pump shaft had failed which meant we lost the belt and the pulley and the coolant was pouring out of the hole were the pump shaft should have been.
