What's a "dim/dip" unit on a Micra?

I have a Haynes manual for a Micra and on the circuit diagram it shows a Dim/Dip "Unit" for the headlights. What does this unit do exactly - and whereabout on the car is it usually found? (94 Micra 1.0) tia

ps The problem is that the passenger side headlight (both main and dip beam) does not work - even though the bulbs are ok).

My guess is the Dim/Dip unit is a relay that lives inside the engine compartment.

It puts the low beam on at half power when the sidelights are on and the ignition switch is in engine running position. Don't have any idea where is it located on a Mirca but on the 200SX it's behind the LHS kickpanel with the ECU. My headlamps have a separate fuse for each filament (hi/lo left/right 4 in total) but hi/lo have common ground though one relay on each side - this may just be part of my pop-up system.

You are going to need a multimeter to check this out properly.

I have exactly the same problem as you!!!! I have located the DIM DIP, (remove the fuse cover on the drivers side down to the right, look up and left, there should be a grey box about the size of a pack of cigarets thats it) When the engine is running and i turn the lights on, the DIM DIP makes a "buzzing" noise!

Nissan will charge £150 GBP!!!.....Don't buy it!!! I shoped around and got one for £20 GBP from a Jab breaking yard.

  • THE CHANGE DID NOTHING *

Im still trying to solve the problem!

If anyone has any answers plese get in touch.
