Hi all,
'97 Maxima SE, Auto, 172K miles
The driver's side axle outer boot has finally broken. Judging by the amount of grease in the wheel well it happened fairly recently, a week ago or two at most.
Given the high mileage of the original axle, is it worth replacing just the boot? If so, should I replace both the inner one and the outer one at the same time?
If replacing is a bad idea, would you say a Nissan OEM part is the only way to go, or are there any reputable aftermarket brands/rebuilders worth considering?
While the axle is out, I understand it's a good idea to replace the transmission seal, right? According to the Haynes manual, it may be necessary to remove the passenger side axle first, in order to push out the driver side axle. If so, should I also replace the transmission seal on the passenger side?
What's the socket size for the large nut? Is it 36mm?
Thanks to all in advance!
