Battery & Brake Lights On

Hi All,

I have posted here a few times and you guys have always been helpful. Thanks!

I have a 1993 SOC and the other day my dashboard brake light and battery light came on at the same time. I checked my brake fluid level and it was fine and there seems to be no problem with them, and everything seemed okay with the electrical system.

I drove it for the past few days and all of a sudden my battery completely died and I was stuck having to buy a new one just to get home. Even with the new battery in place the same two lights are on.

It look like I will have to bring it in, but I thought I would check to see if anyone has had this happen to them and might know the cause.

replace the alternator.

Be sure to use a factory OEM part or you will be replacing it again in a few weeks or months, your mileage may vary.

Check your charging system (under or overcharge) and belt(s). If nothing else check voltage at the battery with a volt meter when the car is running (should be greater than 12.5 VDC). Maybe the previous battery died because it was not getting charged. But when a battery wears out, it tends to fail suddenly.

Sometimes low voltage can affect other instrument lights. But overcharging can fry the battery,
