I have a 2001 Maxima. The doors do not lock when I close the door and start the engine. Are they not suppose to lock automatically? Thanks, Keith

No. My 2000 and 2002 don't do that.. But my wife's 2001 RAV4 does. Not sure I like that though..

I am glad my 95 Maxima or 2001 Pathfinder do not do that. Suppose you do not have an automatic garage door opener, jump out of the car to close the garage, and wind blows the door closed. I particularly found it annoying when an unfamiliar GM rental car kept locking the doors when put into drive. I had to fumble around in the dark trying to find the unlit button to unlock the doors to get out of the car.
I wonder how one exits the new Corvette with its electric doors when its battery goes dead (just electric push button to open the door with no manual latch).
If you live in a bad neighboorhood, you can always lock the doors yourself at the touch of a button (so much work!).
