Drove the 2004 SL

I just got a chance to drive the '04 SL. Nice car! I like the looks of the car and the ride/handling blows away my current GXE. (1998). I even told the dealer about the torque steer "problem". He told me to go ahead an punch it from a stop sign. I swear I almost spun the tires, but no noticible torque steer. The guy owns a '95 SE and a '96 Explorer XLT and says he has been a mechanic for over 20 years before going into sales. Anyway, he said they somehow fixed the torque steer problem, which was becoming really apparent on the '01 - '03 models.

Now if I only had an extra $30K to spend on a car.

I test drove a Maxima SL a month or so ago and I actually found the torque steer to be very severe. I did test drive the manual 6spd and was punching it in all the low gears - so that would have probably brought out the worst of the steering-setup. An automatic-transmission equipped vehicle may behave better just because you don't have the same control over torque delivery to the drive-wheels. (Not sure if the OP a manual or auto equipped vehicle).

Just my two cents. Nirav

96 Max GLE, 92k

Well, last time I drove a manual was in West Germany in 1987.
