How to improve sound in my 307 SW ?

Hello, I hope you can help me about this one.

I am from Europe, own 307 HDI 2.0 SW, factory fitted with CD player and

6 speakers. Car is great, no problems at all.

BUT ... sound is really terrible, bass and treble controls are of no help, and I feel that factory supplied speakers are to be blamed for this terrible, flat, gray, lifeless, flimsy sound image. Any advice what speakers to be used instead ? Any specific suggestions ?

And yes, I will do that change all by myself, I used to have installed speakers in a dozen of cars so far. Where to get an info what good quality speakers would fit into my 307 SW ? Many thanks in advance for help.

Greetings from Croatia, south Europe

Hi Zac,

I don't know where to go for speakers in Croatia! - but the front two main speakers are 16.5cm - I personally like the SONY speakers as they tend to have good Base, without being 'fluffy', but I think it is what suits your ears best. Most cars I have had tend to come with reasonable head units and between

5-15watt speakers, so this is probably why you dont like the sound. My old Peugot 406 is fitted with standard factory speakers, I have fitted an old Kenwood CD head unit, they give a reasonable sound without too much distortion.

Unfortunatly I cannot find any info on the rear speakers, but the tweeters should be fine as they are.

Hello Andy,

Thank you for your reply. There are a lot of importers and distributors for car speakers in Croatia, so once I find out what are the best speakers for my 307 I will have no problem to get those. What I need to know is if anyone on this group has experienced such a lousy sound image in 307 ( my is SW ), and what should be done. I believe that CD player is OK, but speakers are horrible indeed. It sounds like frequency respond is from 200Hz to 8.000 Hz at most, like there atre no tweeters and no real bass, just mid range. Has anyone changed factory supplied speakers and what speakers should be used instead ? Manufacturer, model, designation ... ?

Thanks again, Zac
