I love a good 'drive off' conducted in a fair and upfront manner:

  • .40 - Nissan Leaf * .28 - monthly commuter train pass * .79 - Chevy Volt * .02 - Toyota Prius * .72 - Ford Focus * .88 - 10-ride pass, train * .00 - one-way tickets

Sure, one can tailor a test to show the results one wants to see. But overall, this one looks fairly balanced. As expected, except for the EV and Plug-In, the Prius clearly out performed the gasser.

The DC/MD/NoVA bus service cost is about $1.50 per trip ( the longest distance per trip is frm 5miles to 12 miles depending on the route you take) This is a rather short distance compared to what a commuter train will tranverse per trip/route in one direction though.

The max route distance travelled by a commuter bus or shuttle is closer to that of a commuter train route. How would you fit commuter bus/shuttle in on your chart?
