I've just got my 2nd SAAB

After my first foray into SAAB land with a 9000si. Ive just gotten a 9000CDE 2.3 turbo Auto and its very impressive in terms of performance over the I. Now I have driven both auto's and turbo's before but never in the same car, so the idea of using kickdown to increase the revs when going uphill or on a sweeping bend doesn't work too well as the turbo cuts in and the power zooms up. So I will have to modify my driving technique to tame the beastie a bit. Do any of the experienced auto turbo drivers here have any tips for a novice like me? Gotcha's would also be useful.

Also when hitting the load pedal at cruising speeds the engine starts to shake a bit, is this normal or is this a known problem?

It would appear you are not satisfied with the power going up a hill, so you feel you want to use the gas pedal to make the automatic down shift automatically. One possibility would be electronic adjustments to the transmission shift points - does the transmission have a "Sport" or "Economy" mode button? I drove a Saab turbo convertible with an automatic and it was smoother in "Economy" mode than in "Sport" mode.

I recently bought my first turbo auto as well, and it is does take a bit of getting used to. If I want to get the revs up without putting my foot to the floor, I manually shift from 'D' to '3' (or sometimes '2'). Once I'm up to speed, I nudge it back into 'D'. If you're used to a manual, this feels quite normal after a couple of goes. Think of it as semi-automatic sequential gearshift. :)

Just be careful not to change down too far or you'll over-rev and blow the engine. On my '88 9000 turbo, you need to push the button in to change down, but not to change up, which is handy as it stops you accidentally going into neutral on the way up.
