Assuming that the oil was changed regularly and there is no significant rust the car is not even middle age. My 94 CSE automatic was going strong at about 280,000 miles (450 k KM?) until it was totaled by high speed collision with a deer. I had passed it on to my son when I found a great 98 CSE that now has 130,000 miles on its odometer. Neither car ever requied addition of oil between changes. The only work ever done on the engine was to replace the rear main oil seal at 260,000 miles. Both have been the best cars I have ever owned (although I have fond memories of a 1939 Oldsmobile coupe, and a 1965 Rambler). By 1997 most all of the bugs were worked out of the 9000s. Check

From previous experience of my 2.3 FPT 9000, ignition cassette (DI cassette) and serpentine belt both gave up.

We're extremely happy with our anni'. Just cost £410 sterling for Saab specialist full service, MOT (UK yearly govt' test) and new exhaust. OK that's a fair bit of cash but still good value IMO. Buy it now before someone else does, I'd be amazed if you regret it.

Apparently the auto boxes can start to become flaky, if not properly maintained, arround the 100k mile point.you not that far off that are you?

ones. Take a look at the fluid though. It should be pink or at least not a dark brown?

Not quite the same but when I got my first 9000, I checked the ( manual ) gearbox oil and it was clear as could be !

actually quite close to it(149 k KM) ..but the vehicle is very well maintained adn i can say that its in showroom condition..though i did not have it checked properly..

but the transmission, is shifting with almost no delay after the command is given..i hav tried that myself

after an approx 70-80 mi. test drive, i gave up the idea of buying this vehicle due to the reasons :

2) vehicle is too noisy inside..particularly when the turbo is in "vacuum", the noise is too high..

4) the *appearance* of the vehicle is definitely spotless..service records etc, are all good..BUT it does not give the feeling of a modern car from 1997..rather, you feel like you're driving an early 70's GM..the dashboard, particularly the warning lights, are just awful..

6) i drive 50K km/ year..so the approx maintenance cost is 2 K USD / year..thats a little bit too high

Why didn't you like it? It gave more performance and better stopping power. I did a Stage 3 upgrade (ECU and 3" Exhaust to my '94 9000 cse and I love it.)

What about when the turbo was not engaged? Was there too much wind noise?

I agree the AC fan is a bit noisy.

To Each his own I guess. I don't think the dash is 70's americana, I've had folks remark it looks like a plane cockpit.

What do you mean by this? Oil and filter changes? I do mine every 3k-5k and it only costs $25.00. Less if I do it myself.

What are you considering into the maint. costs?

Depends how many miles, condition etc....
