Hey I'd forgotten about those! I made a poor mans version by wrapping several turns of the screenwasher pipe around the hose on my old 900. It seemed to work and all...! Looks like I'll have to do a D & C on the IAC valve on my 9k - the idling is getting erratic again too...

What is this on the exhaust manifold?

It's isolating material. Keeps the exhaust temp higher = faster spool-up.

What does the exhaust manifold look like? Is there a gap in the middle of the mounting pad between the two pairs of pipes? Are there different types of exhaust manifold or are they all the same (9000).

This was a serious question (no joke), but nobody answered. Obviously, the exhaust manifold gets considerable hotter than the engine block, so the mounting would have problems with thermal expansion. That is why I asked the question; to find out on what it should look like if it's OK and what to look out for if not OK.
