Might it be, instead, from the timing chain? Different area of the car, though.

When idling I hear sometimes a metallike sound. It looks like it is coming from the automat.
What can this be?
I had that last year on my '93 9000 auto at 180,000 miles. The noise tended to go away at speed, it gradually got worse.
Turned out to be the flexi drive plate.
